A medical center is, generally, any place where medical treatment is offered. Health centers range from smaller private practices to large, hospital-like hospitals and trauma centers with advanced emergency departments and intensive care units. Most centers offer a variety of services and facilities for patients. The main purpose of these establishments is to provide high quality medical treatment while ensuring that the process is efficient and painless.
The medical facilities in a medical center vary widely. One may have a medical department that specializes in providing specialized treatments such as pediatric medicine and gynecological care. The center may also provide services such as x-ray services, medical laboratory and radiology services, cardiology, obstetrics and gynecologic surgery. It may also have specialized equipment, including operating room chairs and robotic surgical procedures. There may be a surgical department where operations are performed under anesthesia and surgical instruments, such as scissors and sterilization instruments.
The major portion of the health center is the emergency department. The ER is the department where most patients who require urgent medical attention come in. The staff of the emergency department consists of doctors, nurses, therapists and other medical personnel and consists of a general physician and specialists, like an anesthesiologist.
Trauma center is another part of the medical center, designed to provide intensive care for patients who require intensive care because of severe accidents or serious illness. The trauma center typically includes a full spectrum of care including intensive surgical procedures, physical rehabilitation, advanced cardiac and neurological treatment. The primary task of the trauma team includes protecting the patient from secondary disorders that may occur as a result of the accident.
The rehabilitation department comprises the staff of the patient's home or office who is supposed to guide him or her through the recovery process. The rehab team is comprised of physicians, therapists and other medical staffs who focus on the mental, physical and social rehabilitation of the patient. They help patients regain their independence by improving their quality of life and helping them return to normal activities.
Another section in the center is the laboratory department. The laboratory is a place where all the tests are conducted on a patient's body to determine the cause of his or her illness. These include laboratory tests and investigations to detect the condition of the disease itself, such as blood analysis to determine blood count and the presence of antibodies. and tests to detect the presence of abnormalities in the blood cells and tissues.
The outpatient department of the medical center comprises the patient's private areas. These include the patient's bedside rooms, the emergency department, the patient's private bathroom and even the equipment used during the surgery. The outpatient department consists of the patient's personal items such as clothes, towels, bedding, medicines and hygiene products and personal items.
The outpatient department may also include a pharmacy where medications are stocked. The pharmacy department supplies medications to the patients in the case of emergencies or non-urgent problems.
If your hospital does not have a medical center and you have no access to any, you will find many facilities available online that offer a wide range of services and amenities for those who are traveling to the medical center. The patient and the staff can make use of their convenience of having the facility at their own doorstep.
There are several factors to consider when hiring staff to work in a hospital: Are the staff qualified and licensed? Can the staff to be supervised by an RN?
Is the patient safe when he/she is in the hospital? Is the facility well-lighted and clean? Is the staff friendly and attentive?
What is the service or amenities you are expecting the medical center to offer? How easy is it to reach the center? The answers to these questions will decide if you are satisfied with the services that the medical center has to offer.
